AFGHANISTAN-PAKISTAN EARTHQUAKE

27 October 2015

Labor’s thoughts are with the people of Afghanistan and Pakistan following a magnitude 7.5 earthquake that has killed more than 200 people and injured thousands.

We are particularly saddened by the news that at least 12 Afghan girls died trying to escape their school building.
For a country like as Afghanistan that is already suffering immensely, this is a devastating event.

The Australian Government must do all that it can to assist with relief efforts - Labor offers its full support.

We urge Australians in the region, and those thinking of travelling there, to follow the advice of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Australians that need help, or are concerned about the safety of their loved ones, can call the Australian Government's 24 hour emergency consular helpline on 1300 555 135 (within Australia), +61 2 6261 3305 (outside Australia), +61 421 269 080 (by SMS).
