RETIREMENT OF ADAM GOODES

20 September 2015

Labor pays tribute to Adam Goodes as a true champion both on and off the sporting field.

Adam Goodes is a great Australian and he will be forever known as one of the football greats.

The former Australian of the Year and AFL champion has had a remarkable football career for the Sydney Swans.

The dual Brownlow medallist and twice premiership player leaves the game as one of the Swans’ most successful players.

Adam Goodes has become a remarkable role model for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, most notably as Australian of the Year in 2014.

His efforts to bring Aboriginal culture to the fore in our national sporting arenas made him a symbol of Indigenous pride.

In recent times, he has endured unacceptable racial discrimination, and has responded with dignified strength.

Labor wishes Adam Goodes every success in his future, confident he will continue to inspire Australian young people across the nation.
