Member for Maribyrnong and Minister for the NDIS and Government Services Bill Shorten says the Victorian Government’s announcement that Keilor East will have a brand-new station for the new airport ‘sky rail’ line is a boon for the whole electorate and local community.

“This is a giant win,” Minister Shorten said.

“A new station in Keilor East will be a game changer – by delivering an alternative transport option to get locals where they need to go faster.”

The new station in Keilor East is part of the Melbourne Airport Rail project and is predicted to link more than 150,000 residents the area to Victoria’s rail network for the first time.

Minister Shorten worked to represent local communities to have their voices heard and will continue to do so moving forward.

Multiple meetings with Melbourne Authority, Victorian Rail Authority and local councils were held to ensure maximum benefit across Maribyrnong.

“I also want to acknowledge the persistent and tireless work of my state colleague Ben Carroll, Member for Niddrie.”

“The benefit this station will bring to local communities is due to having Labor governments in both Victoria and federally.”

The Albanese Labor Government and the Victorian State Government Labor have each committed $5 billion in funding for the project.
