TROUBLE IN PARADISE

The revelations that a Government MP failed to declare his patronage of a bowls club that was awarded $9,725 from the Government has a familar ring to it.

Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie was forced to stand down from cabinet for failing to disclose her membership of a gun club that received a $36,000 Government grant.

On February 2 Prime Minister Scott Morrison held a press conference to announce Ms McKenzie’s resignation.

Mr Morrison said: “On the basis of that – and that is the conflict of interest and the failure to disclose – the Minister has tendered her resignation to me this afternoon.”

He also said: “Standards, as I say, are about accountability.”

The question is: Will the Prime Minister enforce the same standard for Liberal MP and honorary patron of the Paradise Point bowls club, Stuart Robert, the PM’s ex-flatmate?

Or does the PM have one standard for members of the National Party he considers expendable and another for his Liberal mates?
