A YEAR OVERDUE, WHERE'S THE APOLOGY TO THALIDOMIDE SURVIVORS?
The Morrison Government has now taken twelve months to respond to the Senate’s 2018 inquiry into Support for Australia’s Thalidomide Survivors.
The final report was tabled in March 2019 and made 11 recommendations including a national apology and additional support to enable thalidomide survivors to live with their disabilities.
Last year, along with survivors, Labor requested an urgent response to this Inquiry.
This arrogant Government has been sitting on these recommendations for one year with no view to respond.
Thalidomide survivors have been mistreated for fifty years.
This is not good enough.
This is an insult to Australia’s thalidomide survivors.
If the Morrison Government does not respond to this Inquiry immediately, Australian thalidomide survivors will continue to be mistreated.
This Government has had a year of missed opportunities to respond to the survivors of the tragedy and give them the respect they deserve.
