Labor utterly condemns the latest barbaric attack on Egypt’s Coptic Christian Community.
At least 25 people were killed and 49 injured when a bomb exploded during Sunday mass at St Peter's Church.
St Peter's Church is located beside St Mark's Cathedral, the seat of Egypt's Orthodox Christian church and home of its spiritual leader, Pope Tawadros II.
Copts make up approximately 10 per cent of Egypt's population, but have been suffering increasing persecution and violence in recent years, forcing an estimated 100,000 Coptic people to leave Egypt.
An attack on any place of religion is an attack on freedom of religion everywhere and Labor expresses our support and sympathy for the 100,000 Australians of the Coptic faith.
