Labor sends its warmest wishes to Joko Widodo for his inauguration tomorrow as the next President of Indonesia.

 

We look forward to working closely with the new President to further strengthen and deepen the relationship between our two nations.

 

Indonesia is a neighbour of paramount importance, and a great partner of Australia.

 

Australia’s friendship with Indonesia goes back many decades.

 

Australia was an early supporter of Indonesian independence under the Chifley Labor Government.

 

We are confident that Australia, with President Widodo, can continue to grow our warm relationship.
