On behalf of the Labor Party I extend my deepest condolences to John Bannon's wife Angela, his family and friends.

In a state that has bred some truly great Labor men and women, John was a magnificent leader.

He truly loved South Australia.

John will be remembered for driving the development of South Australia's defence and manufacturing industries and the high skill jobs that came with them.

As Labor's longest serving South Australian Premier he served his state and his country with distinction.

May he rest in peace.
