The next great sporting stars of Moonee Valley, Brimbank and Maribyrnong are being encouraged to apply under the latest round of Local Sporting Champions grants, Opposition Leader and Member for Maribyrnong Bill Shorten said today.
“I urge any young local athlete, coach or official to apply for a Local Sporting Champions grant to help cover the costs of participating in their chosen competition," Mr Shorten said.
“Introduced by the Federal Labor Government in 2008, the grants can assist with the costs of travel, accommodation, uniforms or equipment associated with participating in an eligible championship.”
Mr Shorten said that past recipients had included local synchronised swimmers, cricket players and track and field champions.
“Our community is home to many great sporting champions and these grants are designed to help the next generation realise their sporting dreams.”
“Successful recipients will receive $500 to go towards the cost of competing in a recognised state, national or international sporting championships.”
The round closes on 31 October 2014, with further information and application forms available at www.ausport.gov.au/participating
