This morning I learned that Lynne Kosky had tragically lost her battle with cancer.

 

As we mourn the loss of this remarkable woman, we recognise the stunning contribution she made in public life.

 

We sincerely thank Lynne for dedicating herself to raising awareness of breast cancer throughout her illness – a true testament to her strength of character, her sense of public service and her generosity to others.

 

As a Minister she was deeply commitment to modernising Victoria’s education and training system to deliver greater opportunity.

 

Lynne Kosky will also be remembered for her dedication to the promotion of women in Labor and throughout our nations parliaments.

 

And there has been no more committed advocate for the people of Melbourne’s west than Lynne Kosky.

 

Lynne served as a councillor at Footscray City Council between 1986 and 1990, including as Mayor in 1988.

 

Elected the Member for Altona in 1996, Lynne became a key member of the Bracks and Brumby Labor Government in Victoria.

 

I had the privilege of working closely with Lynne in the late 1980’s. She was a tireless champion for everyday Victorians, and her loss will be felt by all who knew her.

 

On behalf of Federal Labor, I would like to send my heartfelt condolences to Lynne’s husband, Jim and children Hana and Jackson.

 

My thoughts are also with the friends and colleagues of Lynne Kosky who have long admired her bravery and commitment to social justice.
