Queensland families already struggling to make ends meet will be the amongst the hardest hit by Malcolm Turnbull’s plans for a 15% GST on everything.
An increased GST would cost the poorest 20 per cent of households, over 20 per cent of their disposable income compared to only 8.8 per cent for the richest households.
Unfortunately this is doubly true for Queensland because it has a disproportionately high share of low income households.
This will cost Queensland households dearly - an increased GST to 15% will cost the average Queensland households an additional $6,200 dollars a years.
Independent Parliamentary Budget Office modelling confirms a 15% GST on everything will make all Australians pay:
- At least $10 billion every year more for fresh food,
- At least $7.4 billion every year more for school fees and education, and
- At least $9.6 billion every year more for healthcare; visiting the doctor.
Malcolm Turnbull’s plans to increase and broaden the GST will make everything more expensive and leave Queensland families worse off.
A 15% GST will cost the average Queensland household an additional $6,200 every year.
There is a clear choice between Labor and Liberal for all Queenslanders.
Labor opposes Malcolm Turnbull’s 15% GST which will push up the price of everything.
