News reports today are incorrect in claiming that Minister Shorten was rebuked or admonished by the High Court of Australia.
No Justice of the Court made such statements in their judgements in these proceedings. The Australian newspaper has today corrected it’s online copy from the printed, published version.
It should be stressed that the Commonwealth’s intervention in this matter was made in the public interest. The High Court of Australia did not order costs against the Commonwealth.
The Minister has the utmost respect for the High Court. It is unfortunate and disappointing that, the news reporting of this matter has been inaccurate.
