STATEMENT ON SYRIA

The latest attacks on the civilian population of Aleppo are an appalling humanitarian disaster. 

Labor condemns the deliberate targeting of hospitals, water plants and unarmed civilians. 

These attacks must cease immediately. 

Russia has the greatest influence over the Assad regime and is its principal supplier of arms and military support. 

Russia, more than any other nation, has the power to bring these attacks on the people of Aleppo to an end and allow for the urgent resumption of desperately needed humanitarian aid. 

Labor joins with the Prime Minister in calling on Russia to ensure the ceasefire is reinstated.
