Opposition Leader and Member for Maribyrnong, Bill Shorten has today unveiled a commemorative water feature at the Keilor East RSL.

 

Bill Shorten said the feature, which received $6,880 in funding under the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program, would honour the contribution of local servicemen and women.

 

“It is an honour to be here at the unveiling of our first local Anzac Grant project,” he said.

 

“Located at the entrance of the Club, this feature serves as a fitting tribute to the local men and women who served our nation during the First World War.”

 

Bill Shorten said the feature consisted of three pillars, each representing local soldiers, naval officers and nurses.

 

“These three pillars will serve as a lasting reminder of the bravery and commitment of those men and women,” he said.

 

“In addition to funding for this feature, the Keilor East RSL also received Anzac Grant funding to restore and reframe a photograph of local men attending a dinner in 1914, prior to their deployment to Egypt.”

 

The Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program was established under the former Labor Government and provides up to $125,000 in funding for local electorates to commemorate the Centenary of Anzac.
