Whilst en route to Paris to take part in climate change discussions, I had the privilege of visiting Australian forces stationed in the Middle East.
These personnel are involved in operations in Iraq and Syria and I reiterated Labor's strong support for their mission.
I acknowledged that for many, their deployment will mean they're away from friends and family for Christmas.
These men and women are doing a remarkable job in difficult circumstances.
Their bravery, professionalism and skill is a credit to them and a source of pride for all Australians.
While visiting, I was briefed on operations across the Middle East, had discussions with Australian forces and took time out to go for a jog with personnel.
I also paid Labor’s respects at memorials for the 41 Australian troops killed across MEAO since 2001.
