Today’s newspaper reports confirm what we have known all along – that Tony Abbott is privately canvassing plans to increase the GST.

 

The Sunday Telegraph today specifically reports that Tony Abbott has held secret meetings with key Independent Senators drumming up support for GST changes.

 

This is a Prime Minister that promised “no new or increased taxes” before the last election – 33 times he specifically said he wouldn’t increase the GST.

 

Yet here we have the Prime Minister holding secret meeting behind closed doors pursuing GST increases.

 

Of course, this was Tony Abbott’s cunning plan all along.

 

He has already cut $80 billion from schools and hospitals – despite promising “no cuts to health and education”.

 

He is now blackmailing the states into supporting an increase to the GST because he desperately wants to hand over full responsibility for health and education.

 

If Tony Abbott wants to withdraw all Commonwealth funding from schools and hospitals, he should take it to an election.

If Tony Abbott is true to his word and wants to increase the GST, he should take it to an election.
